The First Steps Toward a New Way of Life
In Harmony, development of the village centre, lake and other extraordinary amenities will begin in Stage 1. Because of this approach, new Harmony homeowners and existing Springbank residents will be able to come together and enjoy the many benefits of this outstanding community as quickly as possible.
27-Hole Championship Golf Course; The Copithorne Club
Windmill Golf Group has enlisted World Golf Hall of Famer Johnny Miller and PGA powerhouse Stephen Ames to assist in designing the Copithorne Club. This world class amenity is one more reason Harmony will complement the beautiful landscape of Springbank.
The Copithorne Club Conceptual Routing Plan
Featuring a clubhouse and practice facilities, the village golf course will be independently owned and operated, with whole portions open to residents and visitors alike. Of the twenty-seven holes, the south nine have been planned with the recreational golfer in mind, while the eighteen holes to the north will become the championship course.
Meanwhile, the open space that the course provides will create a pleasing connection between the employment, residential and airport lands in and around Harmony, and will also feature sweeping views along the northern side of the Grand Boulevard and the urban trail system.
Open Air Museum
Over time, a scenic open-air museum will be built amongst Harmony’s pathways and greenspaces for all to share and enjoy. The village’s recreation centre parks and trail system will be incorporated into the museum, as will a community school.

History of Springbank Interpretive Area Concept Perspective
This unique system of interpretive signage and nodes, public art, historical markers and village facilities will provide information about the local history, natural surroundings, pioneering settlers and more, including:
- Old Banff Coach Road
- The Copithorne Family
- Pioneering Families
- The Springbank Airport

Trails & Pathways
In Harmony, seemingly endless kilometers of trails and pathways will wind from one amenity to the next, drawing people into nature, towards enriching public spaces, and to gatherings with family, neighbours and friends.

A Paved Regional Trail In Harmony And A Granular Equestrian Trail

This extensive system of equestrian, cycling and walking pathways will also connect the village to the greater Springbank area and to the regional pathway system. Along the way, open spaces, residential areas and commercial and institutional facilities will be connected by greenspaces and trails, thereby allowing for picturesque travel from one spot to another.

Proposed Overall Trail Network For Harmony
Waste Water Treatment Facility & Reuse
There are few issues of greater significance than the intelligent use of water resources in new communities. With this in mind, Harmony will be home to an advanced wastewater treatment plant and treated effluent wastewater irrigation system, and will help lead the charge for cleaner, more-efficient water use the world over.
In part because of a partnership with Alberta WaterSMART – a not-for-profit water conservation and technology provider – Harmony will play an active role in developing leading practices that preserve water resources. This includes implementation of measures to reduce the amount of water needed to support the village, and utilization of a Triple Bottom Line approach to providing high quality water, stormwater and wastewater services through responsible, sustainable and innovative stewardship.
When complete, Harmony’s commercial sites will likely be irrigated with a ‘purple pipe’ system – using treated effluent or, if provincial regulations allow, reclaimed grey water from the commercial cells to water the nearby landscape.
Harmony’s on-site water treatment facility will be constructed and operable before the first home is occupied, and will be continually monitored and refined over time.
Open Space Network
When complete, Harmony’s open space system will be designed to promote physical activity, holistic wellbeing, accessibility and walkabiltiy, while simultaneously encouraging connections between residents and visitors.
Key elements of the open space network will include:
- Two regional parks, one each on the east and west sides of the community
- A linear gym with outdoor exercise equipment
- Neighbourhood recreational areas featuring sports fields, outdoor skating rinks, greenspaces and play areas
Neighbourhood parks will be tucked alongside the path system to provide private spaces for reflection, contemplation and rest. Designed to evoke a personal connection with each neighbourhood and the land itself, parks will help differentiate the residential villages from one another with respect to their unique themes, names and uses.

Municipal School Site
This school site, classified as a Municipal School Reserve (MSR), is centrally located in what will be Harmony’s first phase and will create a local foundation for creativity, learning and discovery. Its outdoor spaces will feature large playing fields for soccer and baseball, while the school’s overall layout will be determined in conjunction with the Rocky View School Division.

History of Springbank Interpretive Area Concept Perspective
When complete, this school will be an outstanding addition to the village, and an extraordinary amenity for nearby families. Parents will enjoy walking their children to school, and instructors will welcome the chance to lead whole classrooms out into nature, teaching them about the land, its settlers and more.
Village Centre
Pedestrian friendly and designed as if it were a quaint European resort village, the Village Centre will quickly become a choice destination for all residents and Springbankians.
Imagined and built to complement the relaxed pace of Springbank, the Harmony Village Centre will be home to a collection of boutique cafes, restaurants, shops and public spaces, many of which will be found on High Street, the main street of the area.
Surrounded by a charming creek on three sides and overlooking the expansive Harmony Lake on the fourth, the Village Centre will be a perfect blend of convenience and natural beauty. A future school site will be placed strategically at a key crossroad near the primary entrance, providing both learning and recreation facilities. In all, five parks will be located within the Village Centre and one municipal reserve located along the main street; a picturesque bridge will create a sense of arrival, connecting the core to the rest of Harmony.
Planning for the Village Centre was based on both the Rocky View Municipal District’s Community Needs Assessment and a series of extensive public consultations with existing Springbank residents. As a result of a meticulous development approach that encompassed even the smallest of details, living in or visiting the Village Centre will be a source of joy and pride for generations to come.
The many components and amenities have been carefully plotted to complement each other as well as the surrounding areas. Approximately 75% of Harmony’s residences will be located within the Village Centre, or within a short walking distance. Walking trails and pathways will weave throughout the core and connect to neighbouring homes and multifamily residences.
Harmony Lake
At 140 acres and designed for swimmers, sailboats, kayaks and canoes, Harmony Lake will become a beloved retreat shared and enjoyed by all residents of Springbank. The lake will be stocked to provide year-round fishing and many fun-filled lake activities including:
- Swimming
- Rowing & Sailing (non-motorized boats only)
- Fishing
- Ice Skating

Residents and visitors will spend long afternoons on the water, strolling along the beachside walkway, relaxing on the beach and passing time in nearby greenspaces. And, with its convenient central location, Harmony Lake is only moments from the shops, restaurants and services of the Village Centre.
Residential Phase 1
In Harmony, residents will find everything they need to live, learn, work and play, beginning from the initial phase of development.
Selected and built to encourage families to head outdoors and enjoy the rich country residential life of Springbank, amenities included in Harmony’s initial phase will create a sense of community almost immediately. The first homeowners will be surrounded by flourishing open spaces from the beginning, and will have access to public spaces, trails and pathways, as well as the initial portion of Harmony Lake. Dedicated walkways and common areas will ensure the neighbourhoods become entirely walkable very quickly.
Designed and planned with an elegant, holistic approach, Harmony’s residential areas will be architecturally-rich and built to meet or exceed Built Green standards. With multi-generational living a priority, the first phase will include housing options at accessible price points for families and seniors.
